Interlibrary Loan

The Interlibrary Loan Department provides access for students, staff, and faculty of Teachers College to materials that are not owned by the Gottesman Libraries or any of the Morningside campus Columbia University Libraries. By use of national and world-wide catalogs we can provide, either in the form of a borrowed book or dissertation, or copies of an article, almost anything the user might need. Through cooperative agreements, we borrow materials from libraries around the world.

Teachers College students may request items not owned by any of the Columbia Morningside Campus libraries. Students should search both TC and CU library catalogs before submitting a request to this service. Please note, there are many online journals in the TC and CU Catalogs (also on the TC e-Journals A-Z list and CU e-Journals A-Z list) and this will save you the time of entering an invalid request. Requests are accepted for materials determined to be missing from Teachers College or Columbia. Requests are also accepted for books or articles from journals owned only by Columbia's Health Sciences Library (168th Street and Fort Washington Avenue).

We offer faculty a document delivery service which should cover the range of research needs. One can place a request for anything you need for your personal research or your course reserves. We will obtain the materials according to your needs through a variety of methods, including retrieval from all the Morningside campus libraries, purchase, and interlibrary loan. Articles and chapters will be delivered electronically to your desktop. Books from both the TC Library and the CU Morningside campus libraries will be retrieved and available for pick-up at the Services Desk, as will books, videos and other materials we purchase.

If possible, please note whether you are willing to accept an interlibrary loan item. Materials borrowed via interlibrary loan, such as books, dissertations, videos and other physical items, cannot be placed on reserve.
