MEDLINE

Produced by the United States National Library of Medicine (NLM), MEDLINE is the primary database for periodical literature on medicine and other biomedical fields.  It provides international coverage in these subject areas from 1950 to the present.

MEDLINE is made available to Teachers College users by means of the Ovid interface, for which a useful tutorial is available through the Help link on the main search page.  Linkage to full text journal articles is provided through Article Linker when articles are available online through our library's e-journal subscriptions.

A related database, Ovid MEDLINE In-Process & Other Non-Indexed Citations and Ovid MEDLINE, includes records that will be put into the MEDLINE database once they are fully indexed, and records from PubMed, the freely accessible online database, which will not be added to MEDLINE, in addition to MEDLINE proper.  (A factsheet on the differences between MEDLINE and PubMed can be found on the PubMed site.)

MEDLINE via Ovid is also available from the Columbia University Libraries, as is the ISI Web of Knowledge MEDLINE version of the database.  In both cases linkage to full text journal articles is provided through e-Link when articles are available online through Columbia's e-journal subscriptions.

MEDLINE Plus, a service of the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), presents up-to-date health care information entries on health topics, information on drugs and supplements, and access to a medical encyclopedia, a medical dictionary, health news, directories, and other resources.
