  • Maybe you want to know the history of the Thompson swimming pool or gym, or understand the early mission of Teachers College?

    Long gone are the days of sifting through yellowed papers and dusty books in brown boxes. In are tools that enable smart searching and analysis of archival material. In Archival Research, we will focus on unique institutional resources that help you uncover a wealth of information, with great leads to further research resources. We will explore such resources as Pockektnowledge, the digital archive of Teachers College; Teachers College Record, our official journal dating back to 1900; Educat, the catalog of the Gottesman Libraries, historical newspapers, and more.

  • Dossier Materials: Job Talks, Monday, 11/6, 3:30-5pm


  • How do you prepare for on-campus interviews and job-talks? This session will provide an overview of the on-campus interview process, including the structure of the day; who you will meet; questions you should ask; and what makes a good Job Talk.

    Christine Baron is an Assistant Professor of Social Studies and Education is a former high school history teacher and museum educator. Dr. Baron’s research focuses on examining historical thinking related to non-traditional texts and teaching and learning.

    Haeny Yoon is an Assistant Professor of Early Childhood in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching. Her work focuses on the intersection of play, literacy, and curriculum in classroom spaces.

    James E. Purport is Professor of Linguistics and Education in the Department of Arts and Humanities. His research focuses on language assessment with specific interests in L2 test validation, the assessment of grammar and pragmatics, the cognitive underpinnings of L2 test performance, and learning-oriented assessment approaches to scenario-based assessment in classroom and large scale assessment contexts.

    This workshop is part of the Careeer Development Program, designed for doctoral students in Arts and Humanities and Curriculum and Teaching. Other TC students may attend on a first come, first serve basis.

  • Planning a Learning Theater Event, Tuesday, 11/7, 3-4pm


  • Join TC librarians for a discussion about using the Learning Theater for your event. This workshop will include a review of available planning materials and the application process, and a chance to discuss the theater's range of immersive and research capabilities.

    This workshop is meant to enhance the "Out-of-this-World Learning Theater Experience."

  • Curriculum Corner: Exploring K-12 Resources, Thursday, 11/9, 3-4pm


  • Need to find ESL textbooks for K-12 with a science focus? Tracking textbooks and other curriculum materials may not always be so easy! This workshop covers helpful ways to scout out textbooks, children's literature, lesson plans, and other K-12 materials in the Gottesman Libraries' collection. From Educat, our catalog, to Databases by Genre: K-12, through to Pocketknowledge's American Curriculum Collection, we will present different ways of accessing both current and historical materials.

  • Wearables: Connecting Data to Textiles, Friday, 11/10, 4-5:30pm


  • This workshop will teach the basics of creating wearable design with data. Students will learn how to collect data and integrate and transmit this information to create smart apparel via sensory technology, Arduino programming, and web development. By the end of the workshop, students will have developed a wearable e-textile swatch that collects data from the wearer’s body movements and then visualizes the data on a web app.

    This workshop is presented by Wearable Media as part of the Future Textile Library, an exhibition at the Gottesman Libraries that explores the intersection of fashion, e-textile design, and computational technology.

  • NY Foundling's Child Abuse Prevention Program (CAPP), Tuesday, 11/14, 9am-2:30pm


  • Please join TC alumna Leslie Schmerler and her colleagues from The New York Foundling as they provide training to counselors, social workers, psychologists, and other school professionals about the dynamics of child abuse. Participants are taught how to respond to abuse disclosure statements from children and will learn specific interviewing skills that are most effective when gathering information to make a report. They will also have the opportunity to observe the entire Child Safety Workshop.

    A key component of training, the Child Safety Workshop uses life-sized puppets to teach children to recognize, resists, and report instances of abuse and neglect.

    The Foundling's award winning Child Abuse Prevention Program (CAPP) ensures that children understand their right to be safe and has empowered more than 500,000 elementary schools students in New York City since 1986.

    This event is co-sponsored by TC's Future Child Advocates, a group that Leslie Schmerler co-founded.
