December Staff Picks: Silver Anniversary Picture Books"In the 1990s, when my children were small, I discovered my favorite picture book authors and illustrators while exploring the libraries of Westchester county and New York City. Most readily available were recently published works from the 1990s and the decade preceding. Some of the older libraries yielded collections extending as far back as the 1950s.
This exhibit showcases what I call a "Silver Anniversary" cluster of picture book authors and illustrators who were active some 25 years ago. Concentrating on this period allows me to highlight a number of books published prior to 1990, located in the Gottesman Libraries’ closed stacks. More recent books by the same authors and illustrators are drawn from the open stacks. Some are parts of series, some stand alone.
Take out these picture books and become acquainted, or reacquainted, with the authors and illustrators that became my favorites in the 1990s. Introduce them to a new generation of children!"
