Lecture: Celebrating Women, Thursday, 3/12, 4-5pm

In recognition of Women’s History Month, Penny Colman will speak on “Celebrating Women.” An award winning author for all ages, Colman will highlight lessons learned from women, past and present, as she showcases photographs portraying women’s achievements and important contributions to the building of our nation.

Penny Colman is a widely published author of books, essays, stories, and articles. She is a Distinguished Lecturer at Queens College, The City University of New York and served as an adjunct faculty member at Teachers College. A graduate of The University of Michigan and The Johns Hopkins University, Penny Colman has been a teacher, director of an antipoverty agency, and a school board member. She has presented keynote speeches, lectures, and seminars in a variety of venues from K-12 schools and universities, to National Park historic sites. She has appeared on numerous television and radio programs, including Nickelodeon’s “Nick News”; Looseleaf Book Company; National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition,’ and C-Span2, Book TV. Colman’s books include Rosie the Riveter: Women Working on the Home Front in World War II; Spies! Women in the Civil War; Adventurous Women: Eight True Stories about Women Who Made a Difference; Where the Action Was: Women War Correspondents in World War II; Breaking the Chains: The Crusade of Dorothea Lynde Dix; Fannie Lou Hamer and the Fight for the Vote; A Woman Unafraid: The Achievements of Frances Perkins; Madam C.J. Walker: Building a Business Empire; Mother Jones and the March of the Mill Children; Girls: A History of Growing Up Female in America; Women in Society: United States of America, and most recently, Thanksgiving: The True Story.
