Databases for Alumni

The Gottesman Libraries is pleased to extend the program of services for alumni. Awarded to all those graduating in May 2009 is one year’s free access to a robust collection of alumni electronic resources.

Alumni who graduated prior to 2009 may purchase for $100 an annual membership that covers remote access to alumni resources; all alumni may continue to opt for reading and borrowing privileges, as well as PocketKnowledge, the digital repository and social archive. To sign-up for access, please visit the sign-up page. Please note that alumni wishing to take advantage of access to the alumni program must register within the current calendar year to be eligible (2009 graduates who register after December 31, 2009 will be charged $100).

The Alumni Services program includes access to Education Full Text, ERIC, Academic Search, Business Source, and ABI/Research Library. These databases combined offer access to over 10,700 full text journals in a variety of disciplines, helping support and enhance the work of practicing educators, psychologists, and allied health professionals.

Education Full Text provides comprehensive coverage of an international range of English-language periodicals, monographs and yearbooks. Indexing coverage begins June 1983; abstracts are included beginning spring 1994; full text of 350 journals is available as far back as January 1996. Indexing and abstracting coverage is identical to that of Education Index and Education Abstracts.

The government sponsored site of ERIC provides free access to more than 1.2 million bibliographic records and when available links to full text. A comprehensive database in education from 1966 to the present that indexes journals, reports, conferences, proceedings, books, curriculum, research synthesis, policy papers, and other resources, ERIC is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences (IES).

Academic Search (Alumni Edition) is designed for the research needs of the post-college professional. The database provides full text for more than 3,190 journals as well as indexing and abstracting for more than 8,000 journals. The database offers information in nearly every area of academic study including biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, psychology, religion and theology, and more. Academic Search Alumni Edition also includes valuable peer-reviewed full text journals, offering critical information from many sources.

Business Source (Alumni Edition) is designed for the research needs of the post-college professional. The database provides more than 1,530 full text business magazines and journals, of which 590 are peer-reviewed. This database includes publications in nearly every area of business including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance, econometrics, economics and more. Business Source Alumni Edition includes full text sources ranging from general periodicals to trade publications and top management journals. Additional full text sources include country economic reports, industry reports, market research reports, company profiles and more.

ABI/INFORM Complete offers hard-to-find local and regional business news coverage of large corporations, privately held companies, local start-ups, executive profiles, marketing, finance, and industry news. It provides access to over 2,965 full text journals, as well as business information not typically found in national news sources. From 1985 to the present, it contains news and analysis, information on local markets, and more gathered from major business tabloids, magazines, daily newspapers, wire services, and city, state, and regional business publications.

Proquest Research Library (Alumni Version) database provides access to more than 2,700 full-text journals from 1971 to the present across a wide range of subject areas, including business, education, literature, political science and psychology.

To help us to continue to assess the usefulness of these resources, alumni may complete a brief survey, "One Dozen East Questions about Alumni Services", available at http://www.esurveyspro.com/Survey.aspx?id=e5f33e5d-ff77-4434-b374-d30b16c33db7.
