Focus Group: Pure Data Workshop, Tuesday, 5/12, 4-6pm

Hans-Christoph Steiner, a PureData developer and community leader, will conduct a hands-on workshop on how to use PureData, focusing application on computer music. Steiner is an Adjunct Assistant Professor, Department of Interactive Telecommunications, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, and he orchestrates a "southern" puredata group in Brooklyn.

Pd is a visual programming environment for handling media in realtime. In this workshop, we will explore Pd's audio analysis capabilities. Pd can give you a number relating to the loudness, frequency, pitch, and beat of an incoming stream of sound. Once you have a number in Pd, you are free to use it however you wish. That number can control the color and location of a sphere, the speed of video playback, or a servo motor.

No prior experience is necessary, but it would be helpful. This workshop will be all hands-on, with everyone following along. You may bring your own laptop, or use equipment provided by the Gottesman Libraries.

Persons interested in attending the workshop are encouraged to e-mail library@tc.edu in advance. Seating is limited fifteen persons.

Where: 305 Russell
