Recall a book

Those with normal 28-day loan or semester loan privileges may be asked to return a book sooner than the assigned due date if a patron places a recall. When a book is recalled, the current borrower receives a notice to return the item by the assigned due date. It is then held at the Services Desk for you.

This service is available only to Teachers College and Columbia University affiliates with current borrowing privileges. If you are connected with an affiliated institution (Columbia, Barnard, UTS) you must first establish a circulation record with the Gottesman Libraries before using this service.

Before you send your email, please be certain of the following:

  • The book you are requesting is currently checked out to another patron; Another copy of the book is not available in the library's collection
  • You have at least two methods of identifying the book (call number, title or author)
  • The book you need is not on Reserve or in the Reference collection; please note that a circulating copy of a title on Reserve or in Reference may be recalled.
  • NOTE: If you have questions about your request, you can contact us here.

To complete the book recall, please send the following information to us here:

YOUR INFORMATION: Name, phone number and TC ID number
ITEM INFORMATION: Title, Author, Call Number, Publication Date
