The US economy added 850,000 jobs last month. As the labor pool shrinks, businesses have had to bid higher, with the result being three months of the strongest wage growth since the early 1980s. Still, many economists fear a potential wage-price spiral as inflation continues to climb.

U.S. Departs Last Afghanistan Base, Effectively Ending 20 Years of War

On Friday, the US announced the closure of Bagram Air Base, effectively ending military operations in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the Taliban continue to make massive gains across the country, the Afghan National Army is collapsing, and many in Kabul fear for their future without the protection of the US.

Starmer Hails Labour Win as a Victory for ‘Decency’

With his position as leader of the opposition in jeopardy, Keir Starmer breathed a sigh of relief as Labour narrowly held on to its seat in a byelection in West Yorkshire. Starmer has spun the victory -- by a margin of 323 votes -- as a triumph; echoing Tony Blair, he claimed that “Labour is coming home.”

Just weeks before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, Japan is bracing for a fifth wave of the coronavirus. Since the easing of the state of emergency last month, Tokyo has seen new cases on the rise, including the latest delta variant of the virus.

Attack on Rabbi Puts Community on Edge

Police are still looking for a motive in the brutal stabbing of a rabbi in Brighton that took place on Thursday, but many are convinced it was yet another in a wave of anti-semitic attacks that have occurred in the US over the past few years. The rabbi, Shlomo Noginski, was sent to Boston Medical Center and his condition is stable.
