What helps growing readers flourish? Award winning and notable children's books are valuable resources for the classroom and home, whether read for a particular class, across school disciplines, or pure enjoyment.  Awards may focus on writing, illustration, or a particular theme to mark the latest achievements in the field of children's and young adult literature, covering all genre: fiction, non fiction, poetry, fantasy, folklore, science fiction, mystery and more, from picture book to graphic novel, history to biography and autobiography.

The Gottesman Libraries participates in an automated plan to receive the best and latest children's books, fully cataloged and physically processed, every Spring as part of our commitment to build collections in areas of strength and relevance.  The winners and notables can be found in the contemporary Juvenile Collection and /or Curriculum collections located on the second floor, with select titles on display in the rocket cases.

With a shout out to our Technical Services team, including Tresha Antoine, Library Assistant, and Deidre Thompson, Head of Technical Services and Metadata Librarian, we are pleased to announce 136 wonderful new additions to feast your eyes and inspire readers of all ages!

My mom's life seems incredible to me, and I love hearing her relive every detail when she and Teresita, my dad's cousin, were brigadistas in the literacy campaign in Cuba -- an experience that inspired her to become a literacy specialist and teach children, as well as farmworkers to read and write. She has piles of thank-you cards from her grateful students, And lots of letters from Teresita, which take forever to get here from Cuba. -- Ruth Behar, Ch. 52, "Keeper of Memories",  Across So Many Seas, p. 202.

For every people on Earth, language is our identity and our connection to the world. It helps us communicate, to understand, and to feel close to others. Just imagine you are a little kid of four or five years old. You have grown up learning the language of a loving and close-knot family . Its sounds are beautiful to your ears, and the words have meanings that cannot easily be translated. Such words bring joy and comfort. Then, in a single day, you are taken from the family you love, and you are told never to speak your language again. Instead, you must speak in the language of the people who kidnapped you. --Dan SaSuWeh Jones, Ch.3, "Little Moon at Chilocco", Stealing Little Moon: The Legacy of the American Indian Boarding Schools, p. 52.

Hungry customers wait.
The first delivery goes to students
at the university.
Another goes to the factory.
And then there's one
for the big office tower.
There's a deliveryman from the Old Sobaya
and a deliveryman from the New Sobaya
who are competing to see who can make
the tallest and fanciest stack.
--Kyo Maclear, Noodles on a  Bicycle.
