Exhibition: Inquiry into Educational Justice, Monday, 5/12 - Monday, 6/2
Monday, 5/12, -, monday, 6/2
During the 2013-2014 academic year, members of the Youth, Media, and Educational Justice seminar at Teachers College convened weekly to discuss, explore, and inquire deeply into the complicated intersections of youth, justice, and education—three global ideas that play out in local, small, and everyday moments.
“Inquiry into Educational Justice” is the culmination of our shared, yearlong inquiry into the complex and oftentimes hidden contours of the lives of court involved youth. Ours was a multi-layered inquiry, both collective and individual, and continued to evolve and change as our experience with and about youth, and the institutions they navigate daily, similarly evolved and changed. This shared inquiry was mediated through engagement with: a variety of media (websites, short films, documentaries, social media); interaction and collaboration with young people who have experienced court involvement in the form of foster care or juvenile justice; research literature, essays, and fiction representing a range of perspectives; and a variety of hands on, arts-based workshops that helped us explore and express meaning across and through multiple modes.
