"American Singers, American Song
, from the Curriculum “CURR” shelves on the 2nd floor of the Gottesman Libraries, features profiles of singers from the 1870s to the present, and song anthologies about some of my favorite American genres, including jazz, the blues, and rock & roll. There’s even a comic book
by a fan of Elvis Presley!
The exhibit coincides with Music In Our Schools Month
® (MIOSM), sponsored by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), which offers many ways for educators to get involved.
Consider sharing with your students a personal story of how music education impacted your life. For me, it was learning to read music as a child. Later, when I discovered a passion for singing, I joined a choir, then established an a cappella pop quintet, and finally, performed on small NYC stages as a cabaret chanteuse. It all felt within reach, thanks to that childhood introduction to music."
