Highlighted Databases: Celebrating Libraries

I Love Library Month

In February, come Valentines as well as libraries! Did you know that February is considered Library Lovers' Month, a time when we recognize and celebrate the work of libraries, spaces devoted to reading, housing, organizing, categorizing, finding, studying, promoting, and loving books and other materials, physical and virtual -- as well as services that meet needs of users. Services may include research and reference assistance, educational programming, meeting spaces, artwork and exhibitions, and conservation and preservation of historical collections. We highlight select databases that inform the literature.

ERIC, the Education Resource Information Center, provides access to education literature and research. The database provides access to information from journals included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index. Content includes journal articles, research reports, curriculum and teaching guides, conference papers, dissertations and theses, and books dating back to 1966. ERIC is available via Proquest, EBSCOHost, and a government site.

JSTOR provides access to more than 12 million scholarly academic journal articles, books, and primary sources in 75 disciplines, categorized under Area Studies, Arts, Business and Economics, History, Humanities, Law, Medicine & Allied Health, Science & Mathematics, and Social Sciences. It can be browsed by subject, by title, by collections, and by publisher. It includes many articles about libraries and librarianship.

LearnTechLib is an online resource for aggregated, peer-reviewed research on the latest developments and applications in learning and technology. It encompasses 30+ years and 135,000+ peer-reviewed full-text documents and abstracts of published international journal articles, conference papers from 265,000+ leading authors, and additional multimedia-rich resources. Including journal articles, conference papers, e-books, reports, dissertations, videos, keynote speeches, presentation slides, and webinars.

Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts is a database that provides coverage on subjects such as librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, information management and more. Delivered via the EBSCOhost platform, LISTA indexes more than 600 periodicals plus books, research reports, and proceedings. With coverage dating back to the mid-1960s, it is the oldest continuously produced database covering the field of information science.

Library Literature & Information Science Full Text indexes English and non-English language articles and book reviews from library and information science periodicals, books, chapters in collected works such as conference proceedings, library school theses and pamphlets.

Professional Development Collection is designed for professional educators and provides a highly specialized collection of nearly 520 high-quality education journals, including more than 350 peer-reviewed titles. This database also contains more than 200 educational reports and covers articles about libraries and librarianship.
