Announcing Expanded Paging & Pick Up
For Greater Ease and Use of Collections
Starting October 17th, we are pleased to provide expanded paging services for members of the Teachers College community. Paging services will be fully available for books and other materials located in both the open and closed stacks. Here are a few steps and guidelines:
- The pick up button will present to users who sign in to Educat+, and they may place requests through the prompts in our catalog of holdings, pending successful login with UNI and password.
- Staff will send an e-mail confirmation when the request is ready for pick up, usually within 48-72 hours.
- Patrons may pick up books and other materials at the First Floor Library Services Desk, where they will be held for seven days before being re-shelved by the Library.
- Please see here for the number of allowable requests per patron type, as well as associated Circulation information.
- Closed stacks' material may circulate, pending age and condition, at the Library's discretion. These collections include pre-1950 research pedagogy, pre-1990 children's literature, pre-1990 curriculum, dissertations, institutional collections, and additional materials.
- Requests for materials in TCANA will be reviewed and fulfilled for onsite use only, with arrangements for use in the Special Collections Reading Room.
- The Circulating Collection located in the Tower Stacks (publications from 1950 onwards) remains open for use, browsing, and self service during all opening hours.
- The contemporary children's literature and curriculum collections, located on the Second Floor, similarly remain open.
Expanded paging services with pick up from the holding library is consistent with practices at Columbia University Libraries, and aims to provide high levels of service, while encouraging greater ease and use of the collections.
