New Research Services for Faculty
A New Program of Workshops
As we are pleased to provide continuing support to faculty that includes training for research assistants on library resources, procedures, and literature reviews; research support and consultation for teaching and scholarship; database evaluation and training; and presentations on open-source/open-education materials, we are excited to announce a new series of specialized workshops. These workshops will cover seminal aspects of research and take place on Fridays , 12-1pm, throughout the Fall.
Integrating Information Literacy Outcomes into Course Objectives, 9/30
This workshop will introduce the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy, including a discussion of the 5 frames presented in the document. We will discuss their relevance to course objectives and how to adjust written course learning outcomes to integrate concepts of information literacy. We will finish off with a demo of adjusting example course learning objectives to align with the framework and then brainstorm ideas of how to incorporate IL activities into assignments and discussions
Presenter: Becca Gates, Research and Instruction Librarian
Building Informed Approaches to Research Literacy, 10/14
What constitutes excellence in research? This workshop looks at broader frameworks of criteria for high quality higher education pedagogical research, including orientation to design and description; contextualization; argumentation; integrity and integration, with an emphasis on research and practice, or an evidence-based approach (trials, studies, expert opinions, personal experience). Participants will ask a research question; find evidence to answer it; appraise the information; compare or integrate it with their own clinical expertise or experience; and evaluate.
Presenter: Becca Gates, Research and Instruction Librarian
Research Roundtable, 11/4
Join us for a chance to explore your current research topics, tactics, and opportunities with colleagues from the library and other TC departments. Discussion topics will include types of descriptive research, publication methods, utilizing research offices at TC, and more.
Presenter: Becca Gates, Research and Instruction Librarian
Managing Research Data, 11/11
Introduction to using a variety of research data management tools including reference managers, covidence for literature reviews, trophy and omeka for asset and photo management, Github for code sharing, and more.
Presenter: Becca Gates, Research and Instruction Librarian in collaboration with Digital Futures Institute
Creating Linked Open Data for Scholarly Profiles in Scholia, 12/2
How can linked open data increase research visibility and accessibility, while allowing researchers more control over how their research is identified, aggregated, and shared? Join us for an informational session on creating visual scholarly profiles in Scholia as a new library service. Creating Linked Open Data for Scholarly Profiles in Scholia will focus on enhancing the discoverability of TC research, highlighting research relationships between TC researchers and among colleagues around the world, and ensuring the published works are properly linked and attributed in Wikidata.
Presenters: Kalli Mathios, Head of Technical Services and Metadata Librarian, and Jackson Healey, Library Associate
Teachers College faculty and instructors may rsvp with their interest and details to any or all of these sessions.
