May Staff Picks: Coming of Age

May Staff Picks: Coming of Age

Second Floor

For every human, childhood is characterized by a combination of sights and smells, memories of places and of people. Put together, what exists in this immediate world carefully creates a child’s sense of home. And, oftentimes, that home is held so close to our line of sight that the rest of the world fades away. Coming of Age: Perspectives Beyond Our Own Backyards seeks to provide a literary bridge between childhoods. This bridge is formed in hopes that, as adults with a larger capacity to step outside of ourselves, we may grow in compassion and empathy at a time when the world certainly needs both. May we see this collection as an invitation to help children expand their worldviews as well.
