Rocket Cases: Stories to Strengthen Awareness and Inclusion
Second Floor
Caused by cerebral abnormalities due to genetics, disease, injury, and/ or the environment, developmental disabilities occur most often in childhood, but up to twenty-one years of age. They affect a person's ability with language, learning, movement and / or behavior, manifesting in conditions that generally last for a lifetime and often require treatment, medication, education, and support. Examples include attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism, cerebral palsy, hearing loss, intellectual disability, learning disability, muscular dystrophy, speech impairment, spina bifida, and vision impairment.
Showcasing true stories and educational resources concerning developmental disabilities, we draw upon the contemporary juvenile collection to foster awareness and inclusion in March, a month long observance by the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities.
