New Book Display: What Is Home?

New Book Display: What Is Home?

Everett Cafe

What does Home mean to you? Are we born into it, or do we actively build it? Why do we share a need for belonging to space, someone, and / or  a group of people? What happens to our identity when we feel we don’t have any home at all? How does your strongest sensory memory of home color your awareness, understanding, and well-being? When do our working lives blur the sanctity of home – or aid it with hybrid or remote opportunities?

Considering place or the spatial imaginary, from physical construct to myth or dream, simple room to smartest den, classroom to after-school curricular, cozy hearth to our greater role in nation, world, and universe, this exhibit explores the complexity of home. It illuminates relevant themes – architecture and design; immigration and assimilation; race, gender, and class; poetry and literature; life transitions; and technological innovation among them – bridging education, psychology, and applied health.

What Is Home? complements October’s Staff Picks, Roots and Roots: Writings on Home, Movement, and Identity, and asks us to weigh the meaning of home as interpreted in additional contexts to realize our internal dynamics and fuller relationships with others.
