New Exhibit: Community Ceramics: Creating Connections

To pilot the regular display of artworks made by students and practicing artists in the Teachers College Community Ceramics Program, we began a partnership that aspired to enhance themes in concurrent library exhibitions. This summer, ceramicists considered their options, reflecting upon Reimagining the Future: Nurturing Change for a More Dignified and Meaningful Co-Existence (Offit Gallery, Summer 2026), On Correspondence, In Conversation (Curiosity Cabinets, Summer 2026), and The Querent (First Floor, Spring 2026).

We are pleased to share the extraordinary talent of thirteen ceramicists who were inspired to contribute their ideas, energy and work. They provided new perspectives and unique interpretations – on aging; growth, development, and renewal; our relationship with nature; the meaning of home; social justice; the enlightened self; tarot as correspondence; harmony and interconnectedness; cultural resilience; memory and memorialization. They shaped and fired their art in the kilns of the historic Macy Ceramics Studio, and they helped us create connections that show the value of creativity, learning, and community.

In addition to the artists represented in this exhibit, we wish to acknowledge Judy Burton, Macy Professor of Education; Sam Savvides and Maggie Dunbar, Ceramics Studio Fellows; Aimee Ehrman, Ceramics Instructor; Jennifer Govan, Library Director and Senior Librarian; Kate Scott, Library Associate for Art and Design; and The Myers Foundations for their continuing generosity and support.
