
Today In History: First Recorded Case of the Spanish Flu
On March 4th, 1918 at Fort Riley in North Central Kansas, Private Albert Gitchell, reported symptoms of a sore throat, fever, and headache. Similar symptoms soon spread throughout the base among 100 additional soldiers, with outbreaks then to follow in army camps and prisons throughout the country -- and then quickly to Europe as soldiers made their way to the battlegrounds of World War One.

NYS Grant
The Gottesman Libraries, a member of the Metropolitan New York Library Council, was pleased to receive a grant in the amount of $10,636 from New York State to participate in coordinated collection development for academic year 2023-2024. We enhanced our collections in three areas: Bilingual-Bicultural Education, Science Education, and K-12 Education.

Born on March 22nd, 1912 in Macklin, Canada, Agnes Martin was a preeminent abstract expressionist who painted serene, large scale works, typically using grids and pencil lines with bands of color to evoke emotion.
